Oh the lovely gentleman on the moped? Saw you chugging away on Newport very often. I thought to myself that although I never knew you I wished I did. You looked such a character and a most interesting and intelligent man with amazing witty stories to tell. I would wave and in return get that wonderful smile.
I shall miss you. I feel you brought much needed joy to this world.

My condolences to everyone. Clearly a very great loss. Rip Sir.

I read John's diary for over twenty years and had the pleasure of conversing with him on occasion over the years. Rest in peace.

John was a good friend. I shall miss his warmth and good humor. Sincere condolences to Caroline and all of John’s family.

Au Revoir, John. Fare thee well. Your diaries were a good read, and always worth a read, whether about village life in changing times, cruel country "sports" - of which you were strongly opposed - and parish council, national and international issues. I kept many of them...
