John DouglasCONNOR"Scots steel tempered wi' Irish fire." Treasured memories of JOHN DOUGLAS CONNOR of Rutherglen. Passed away suddenly on 24 August 2021. Beloved only son of the late JOHN PATRICK (JACK) CONNOR and HELEN (EILEEN) nee KELLY. Devoted and dearly loved brother of DOROTHY ELLEN CONNOR.

"Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling From glen to glen And down the mountainside The summer's gone And all the roses falling 'Tis you, 'tis you must go And I must bide"

Sleep on soldier. Your work's done. Safely held in angels wings. Until we meet again. Love always, Dorothy

I have lovely flowers today -purple and white -spiritual colours. You always bought me flowers for all occasions and none. We even bought each other gifts for Mother's Day and Father's Day in remembrance of our mum and dad though you never allowed me to talk about them or anyone who had passed. You found it all too difficult though I now know you felt it very deeply.

I am hoping my story will be in the free book given away free by the Scottish Book Trust in libraries for Book Week Scotland in November. It is on the Scottish Book Trust website just now Scotland's Stories 2025 Friendship and called What Every Man And Woman Needs by Dorothy Connor -and you are in it -because we were pals.
I will leave you in peace now! Love Always Dotxx

"I did not know that morning
What sorrow the day would bring
When a heart of gold stopped beating
I could not do a thing."

Even I am lost for words now. I could not have got through my cancer journey without you and now I am here and you are not. It makes no sense. Perhaps I am here because I am meant to tell everyone's stories.

On the day of my surgery 3 September I sent you to Rutherglen Library to see the wartime 70th anniversary exhibition featuring dad's story about Burma just to keep you busy. Six years later on the exact time and date I was conducting your funeral. Now nearly ten years on and still writing about dad -Dorothy Connor Glasgow Times and Dorothy Connor Daily Record VJ Day 2025.

I found out later that you had kept all my articles over all the years, shown them to everyone and said how proud you were. I gifted dad's medals to the Heritage Centre and they were on display again for VJ Day this year. After you passed I found you had bought replicas. Heartbreaking. I will keep the faith and I know I will be shown what more there is for me to do until I too hear the call.
Until then, love always Dotxx

Thank you for the big bright star in the sky for my birthday, the music and the white feather.

Lucy is 20 today. Can you believe it? A good loving lass.

Nine years and three months for me today and three years and three months for you.

Miss you every day. Still doing my best. Still singin' n dancin' as best I can.

Sleep on soldier. The brightest star in the sky. Love to Mum and Dad. Love Always, Dorothyxx

Can't believe it's three years today since I conducted your funeral and nine years since my cancer surgery. Life makes no sense. You were my rock, with me every step of the way. My strength and my safe harbour, my shelter from the storm.

I hope you think I did okay. You had You'll Never Walk Alone, The Gaelic Blessing and The Red Hot Chilli Pipers Flower of Scotland and I read Robert Burns, A Honest Man.. and our family poem All Is Well and the Irish Blessing for Travellers . Everyone said it was beautiful. It has all broken my heart. Thank you for everything, then, now and always. I know I'll never walk alone and you will always be right there by my side holding my hand.

"Underneath the stars I met you,
Underneath the stars I left you
Go gently,
I'm here beneath the stars unending,
Underneath the stars I'm mending
Go gently
Underneath the stars befriending
Go gently,
Go gently"

Love Always, Dotxxx

Three years in Heaven now and you have your Golden Wings.

The best big brother. My strength and my safe harbour, my shelter from the storm.

I am doing my best to keep singin' 'n' dancin' as we always said. I have tried hard to keep all my promises to you.

Miss you every day. Love always, Dorothyxx
