Sheila HelenaCOLLINGSSheila Helena (McCarthy) Collings, 94, passed away peacefully at Wray Common Nursing Home, Reigate, on 11th October, 2022 after a short battle with cancer. Sheila was born in Redhill on October 7th, 1928, the daughter of Charles and Margaret McCarthy. She was predeceased by her brothers Gerald and Dennis, and her sister Eileen. A long time resident of Redhill, and more recently of Reigate, Sheila worked for many decades at Mullard/Philips Research Laboratories, Redhill. In retirement, her strong work ethic and spirit of volunteerism translated into many hours working for the Bob Chudley Club for the Blind. A prolific and skilful knitter, Sheila sent hundreds of knitted items to the needy around the world. She also spent many happy hours with her granddaughters Becca and Ella, along with her grandnephews Thomas, Sam and Guy who all treasured their time with her. She enjoyed crosswords and puzzles, arts and crafts, walking, traveling and gardening, and her indomitable spirit, sense of fun and sociable nature will be deeply missed by her family, her many dear friends, and the parishioners at her parish church, St Joseph's, Redhill. She is survived by her son, Ray Collings of Lincoln, Massachusetts, USA, and his daughters Becca and Ella, as well as her cousin Angela Gannon, nieces Linda Blackman (and husband Mark), Lorna Hector and Sandra Boreham, nephews Gerry Philp (and wife Dale) of Hagerstown, Maryland, USA, and Alec McCarthy, as well as 7 grandnephews.
