A Tribute to Dave Chapman
There are people who step into your life quietly but leave a mark that lasts forever. For me, one of those people was Dave Chapman.
I met Dave at DC Engineering at a time when I needed just one person to believe in me. I didn’t have the qualifications, the confidence, or the background that most firms were looking for — but Dave looked past all that. He saw something in me that I didn’t yet see in myself.
He gave me my first real break in engineering.
He opened the workshop door and said, in his own way, “Come on then — let’s see what you can do.”
That small act of trust changed the entire direction of my life.
Dave didn’t just give me work; he gave me a chance to grow. He brought me onto the steelworks during shutdowns, trusted me with serious machinery, and spoke for me when others overlooked me. Because of him, I went from feeling like I wasn’t good enough to standing as a skilled mechanical fitter that engineers would ask for by name.

I’m grateful to him. I remember him with respect. And I honour him by carrying forward the opportunity and kindness he showed me.

I first worked for Dave at DC engineering and had many a laugh and joke with Dave as he a a great sence of humour and he was a very approachable and fair boss, a true gentleman that loved his family deeply and will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him sending love to his family x
RIP DAVE
