I had rather sadly and regretfully not been informed that Arnold had died by any member of my immediate family. The last few years have been rather chaotic. Arnold was one of only few to have collaborated on the family tree that I did not know much about.

There were very many interesting stories and finds. It was exciting to share all of our new historical finds and to further the family tree back to Edinburgh. I will miss researching the family tree mostly online together with Arnold and had spent many many years doing so. We were always in touch with each other by email.

In 2012 I had purchased two stars for the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, Edinburgh. One of those was for the Hadaways. Arnold had the opportunity to see this star and had also bought his camera along to take a few photographs of this special occasion. Just as I write this message the sun is a super bright white and has just shone through our living room window at 14:59.

Up until a few years ago, possibly around 2019? Arnold had also sent me a Christmas card through my paternal grandmother Irene, to whom he was related through her father. But as said 2019 onwards for me was exceptionally chaotic, none of which can be explained online. I am very sorry that I did not send a Christmas card to him, as far as I can currently recall.

Rest in peace Arnold and thank you for all of the good memories that you had spent time to share with me including a number of events. I will be forever grateful for having met you and your family.

Arnold will be missed by all. He was always a friendly and kind person. I have many happy memories with him growing up, for instance when he took me around the amusements and play centre in Whitby - I must have been only around seven or eight years old at the time but still remember it well. He had a long and happy life, and will be well-remembered. Let's toast to that!

I am so sad to hear that Arnold has passed away. I used to go and see Arnold every Saturday and I loved our chats, he always used to ask where my son James was going on a weekend. He used to show me the calendars that he received from his relatives in Australia. Arnold was such a lovely gentleman and I will really miss him. Rest in peace, Arnold, from Anne Wearmouth
