Mr Brittan was the very first "master" (as they were known then) that I met at Brigg Grammar School. I remember him giving a presentation on a school trip the previous year canoeing in the Dordogne area of France (I think) which demonstrated his enthusiasm and love of his job and the pupils within his charge. "Benjy" taught me physics over several years, his clear explanations and analogies used in his teaching setting me up for a career in refrigeration engineering for which I am forever grateful. Dave was a great "master", was always approachable and during my later school years, could be talked to as an equal. My condolences go out to his family - RIP "Benjy" I'm sure that your teaching has benefitted thousands of former Briggensians over many years.

Way back in the 1960s Dave, known to us as " Battler", inhabited a room seemingly filled with gold leaf electroscopes and a Van der Graaf generator. All very mysterious. But Dave made physics interesting and fun and imbued in me a desire to understand the nature of our world, which continues to this day. The essence of a teacher. Thank you.

I want to take a moment to honour Dave Brittain ( Mr Brittain to us!). To me, he wasn’t just Richard’s Dad; in many ways, he felt like a father to me too. Always there with a kind word, a steady presence, and a quiet wisdom that left a mark on my life. His warmth, generosity, and strength will never be forgotten.
