KathleenBILLINGTONof Helmshore Road, Helmshore, passed away peacefully at Turfcote Nursing Home on January 18, aged 83 years.
Kathleen was born in Helmshore and was the devoted wife of the late Arnold Billington. They moved into their home on Helmshore Road, 57 years ago from the then little sweet shop, which is now Neary’s general store. She was a dinner lady at Haslingden High School moving on to being the Cook in Charge at Helmshore Primary school. After her retirement, she worked part-time with her son, Andrew in his bakery shops in Haslingden for many years after Arnold passed away in 2006. She was a well-known member of the Community a devoted member of St Thomas’ Church. She was a Sunday School teacher and bell ringer in her earlier years, and enjoyed her garden and her flowers. In her later years she could often be seen sitting in her drive, enjoying the sunshine and the company of many passing friends who would call in for a chat on their way to the shops.
Kathleen will be sadly missed by all her friends and family. She was a much-loved mother to her two children, son Andrew and Daughter Christine, she adored her grandchildren Sarah, Kim, Chloe, Forrest and Nicholas and her great-grandchildren Lyla, Alfie, Freddie, Olivia and Nella. Her funeral service will be on Friday, February 2, 11am at St Thomas’ Church, Helmshore, followed by a service at Accrington Crematorium at 12.20pm, following the services there will be a Celebration of Life at Sunnybank Social Club. The family has asked for family flowers only, but donations are welcome for her beloved Church,
