Devastated to discover today that my dear friend Maureen had passed away, I last saw her on the 30th September we went out to celebrate her Birthday the week before, she was on top of the world as the previous weekend her eldest Grandson had been to stay, she had a wonderful time getting jobs done and spending time in his company, she adored her family and was so proud of them all, she was tired but in her words “What can I expect I am 88!” We left with promises to catch up soon, sadly it never came to pass.
Our paths crossed due to our mutual love of animals whilst volunteering at the local branch of the RSPCA, we looked after, walked and found new homes for pre-loved dogs, we spoke every day to discuss Vet visits, Human viewings of our dogs and home visits to ensure those humans were worthy. I remember one home visit, the Sat Nav lost power in the center of Connah’s Quay, but for Maureen spying a landmark from which we could navigate, we could have been going around that roundabout all day. She had an empathy with some of our more challenging residents they sensed her gentle soul and responded accordingly, no dog was out of bounds to Maureen. Her arrival at the Kennels was greeted with enthusiasm the dogs knowing that their human had arrived and a walk and cuddle were imminent and of course her pocket always held lovely treats. Hundreds of dogs owe their second change of a good life Maureen to , my name might have been on the adoption paperwork but none of it would have come to pass without Maureen’s loyalty and dedication, she was my right hand and my friend. She was also known as the “Dreamie” queen slipping into the Cattery to dispense treats to our feline residents.
After the RSPCA we met up for lunch enjoying a look back at the good days at the RSPCA. I shall miss our chats, I shall miss my friend, she was kind, gentle, quiet and unassuming but touched, and made better, many lives both Canine and Human, Rest Easy my friend together once again with your Bonny
