Mr Bakes was my Top Junior Primary teacher. He made every day at school different and enjoyable. From cross country runs to class quizzes, choir events to athletics competitions. He was a true inspiration and the reason I became a Primary teacher myself. If I was half the teacher he was, I consider myself very lucky.

Martin was a sincere Christian who had strong beliefs and lived his faith. Martin will be sorely missed by all that knew him especially when we were part of the Elderberries. Martin was well known for playing the piano and Rev Ken accompanied Martin by playing the electronic organ. On one of Rev Ken’s visits Martin said that playing music together was the highlight of his life, Rev Ken truly felt the same. I am sad that our time playing music together has ended. Martin I know that the Lord will say that you have been a loyal and faithful servant. May you rest in perfect peace till we meet again. Rev Ken.

Martin inspired me to be more creative when I was at Scotter Primary School. To this day I still
remember the words he said to me. Condolences to the family.

Use to care for Martin when he came into the home I worked in for respite, such a lovely gentleman, loved talking about football and his wife. He was such a pleasure to look after and very talented on the piano too. Rest in peace Martin .
