A truly , lovely man. I worked with him at Widnes Foundry in the drawing office. I was about 17 and he would have been about 23. Always had a smile on his face. R.I.P. 🌹

Our amazing dad, (Joseph) Winston “Win” Atherton passed away peacefully at Whiston Hospital on January 14th. He never recovered after the car accident at the end of November.
He was a true Crontonian. Born at home in 1941 in Smithy Lane to Harold and Cecily, he went to Holy Family Primary, served on the altar at Holy Family church and bought his house at number 11 Smithy Lane in the early 1960s, where he has lived ever since.
He started working at Widnes Foundry but spent most of his career at ICI. In 1981, he was one of the founders of Cronton Rugby League team, he even coached the under 15s Football team for a season as well, having a record of zero wins and one draw! He was a regular in the Black Horse, played for the darts team, was a lifelong Widnes supporter and we think one of the last few of his generation.
He opened his eyes for the last few minutes and we were all there to say goodbye and thank him for everything he's done for us. He didn't look scared and we told him he could go and that we would be ok. We are all devastated.

Thanks for all your support, Julie, Sue Atherton Percival David, Peter, and Lynne x
