JoanSHAWof Almondbury passed away peacefully on 17 June following a period of illness. Much loved Mum to Alison and Kathy and friend to many. A private service has taken place but if anyone wishes to remember Joan, donations to Kirkwood Hospice would be a very kind gesture and greatly appreciated.

I met Joan in the early 1990's when I came to England from Canada for a hiking trip in the Lake District. Joan befriended me right away and took me under her wing. We kept in touch through letters for decades. When my now husband and I were in England in 2015, we met up with Joan in York. She was a lovely lady with a good sense of humor. My deepest sympathies to Alison and Kathy and all of Joan's family and friends. Rest easy, Joan. I will miss your letters.
