Elizabeth VeazieMCKENNAWe announce the passing of our beloved Mother Elizabeth Veazie McKenna nee Middleton 1938-2025, Wife to Peter and Mother to Bernard and Elizabeth, who passed away on Monday 15th December 2025.

The best Mum anyone could have had and the best friend a man could have. Miss you every day love you always, Your son Bernard

Our heart has a hole that we will never fill. Your daughter Elizabeth.

Born in Sileby to John and Amy, in April 1938, Elizabeth was the eldest of 5 children.

Elizabeth trained as a Chef working in her early career between London and Leicestershire, in many roles including Domestic Bursar at both Quorn Hall and Loughborough College.

Elizabeth followed her trade around the world, emigrating to Australia as £10 Pom in the early 1960s with her best friend Alison Jolly nee Kynoch. She came back to England to complete teacher training before returning to Australia.

In Brisbane she met her husband Peter, the 7th of 10 children. They married in 1974 briefly coming back to the UK to marry at Sileby, and lived in Sydney where her children were born, Bernard in 1975 and Elizabeth in 1977.

The family moved to Lake Macquarie on the NSW central coast in 1981 where Elizabeth and Peter built a family home at Myuna Bay. Elizabeth was food services Manager at Eraring Power Station, later owning her own fish and chip shop.

Elizabeth and the children returned to England in 1991, setting in Loughborough. Elizabeth continued to work hard including on a busy fruit and veg stall in Loughborough Market. She ended her working life in education at Loughborough College, retiring in her mid 70s.

Peter passed away in 2012. Elizabeth wrote his eulogy and never removed her wedding ring.

She lived and worked for her children. Her family was the centre of her life as well as her dogs. Her last dog was Charlie, a blue whippet. He passed away 4 years before her and watched over her in later years. Charlie will be laid to rest with her.

A cremation will take place on Friday 9th January 2025 at Loughborough Crematorium at 10.15am. All who wish to pay their respects are warmly invited to attend the service and a wake to follow.

We would appreciate it if you can let us know if you are to join us for the funeral/wake to allow us to plan.

Bernard and Elizabeth are collecting donations for the Dogs Trust, and will be grateful for any contributions no matter how small.
