IreneJONESOBITUARY
Irene Jones, formerly Roe.
1st December 1929 to 28th July 2026.
Irene was born in Rudyard, Staffordshire, and as a teenager met George Roe, her husband to be, who had been evacuated to the area from Coventry. After the war they made their home in Coventry. Irene had various jobs but eventually became a lecturer in ceramics and crafts at the technical college where George also worked as a mechanical engineer.
Years later, after George died, Irene, being adventurous, went on a solo trip to New Zealand and Australia.
Irene then married again. Her second husband, Ron, succumbed to Alzheimer's and died, so she moved into the newly built Earlsdon Park Retirement Village. Here she made many friends and got involved in many groups.
She is survived by her children, Geoff, Pat & Jacquie, and six grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter, Nellie.

A short committal service will take place in the
Charter Chapel, Canley Crematorium (CV4 7DF) on
Wednesday 26th August at 1pm followed by a funeral service at Queen's Road Baptist Church (CV1 3EG) at 1.45.
It would be appreciated if you could wear bright, cheerful clothes to be in keeping with Irene's personality.
At a later date, Irene's ashes will be interred with George, at the Greenhaven Woodland Burial Ground, Lilbourne, Northamptonshire, according to her wishes.

Irene donated to several charities, and in particular to the Macular Society and Age UK.
Donations to either charity in her name would be welcome.
There will also be a collection box for such donations as you leave the church.

Irene has always been part of our family life, meeting my parents, Gilbert & Joyce Mortimer when they moved to Coventry during the war. They were all part of a social’s group from Queens Road and Hearsall Baptist churches. Becoming mums ‘best friend’ Irene, and George were one of several “Aunties & Uncles”, from that group, that always remembered to send Birthday Cards & Christmas presents, to my brother Rod and myself. I remember with fondness the New Year’s Eve parties and Beetle Drives at Belvedere Road, ‘Treasure Hunts’ organised by George and group picnics at Corley Moor where we all sat around on the back seats removed from the cars.
I remember going with mum to Irene’s Pottery class at Wyken Community Centre and still have the pottery owl I made and mum’s leaf plate. Then in 1967 when I met Barry at Henley Catering College, he was surprised to find Irene was our elective studies tutor for Pottery & Decorative Metalwork.
Irene & George continued to be “Auntie & Uncle” to our children remembering them at Christmas and their birthdays. Over the years we have remained in touch, visiting Daleway Road and latterly Earlsdon Park Village, shared lunches at Stoneleigh Golf Club and ‘The Bistro’. It was our pleasure that she was able to join us in celebrating our Golden Wedding in 2023.
Irene was such a talented lady, so proud of her Staffordshire heritage, a pleasure to visit as she shared her latest arts & crafts work. She will be sadly missed by us all.
