I had the privilege of working alongside Maurice at the Conoco Refinery between 1986 and 1988, and those years left an impression that’s never faded. He was one of those rare colleagues who combined deep expertise with genuine warmth — the kind of person who could solve a problem no one else could, then lighten the moment with a story that stayed with you long after.
His knowledge seemed endless, but he shared it without ego. He had a gift for making complex things clear, and an even greater gift for making people feel at ease. Whether we were tackling a tough job or just grabbing a brew, he brought a sense of calm, humour, and humanity to every day.
What I remember most is the way he told stories — full of character, experience, and that spark of mischief that made you lean in. Those moments stitched themselves into the fabric of our working lives, and they’re part of why he’ll be missed so deeply.
He was a lovely man, a trusted colleague, and a friend to many. His absence will be felt, but the memories he leaves behind are rich, warm, and lasting.
He will be sadly missed, but never forgotten. RIP Maurice.
