Everybody has Mental Health.
In fact, Mental Health is Health.
These are not just quotable slogans to stick on the side of a bus top and assume that the job is done, these need to be the way that everybody thinks in order to move away from the stigma that is commonly associated with mental health issues.
Here on the Funeral Notices blog we like to try and talk about mental health in an open and honest way, and we thought we could share five other great blogs that do just that.
Defying Mental Illness covers a wide range of topics around mental health and mental illness, ranging from topics such as ‘Simple Ways to Avoid Stress and Anxiety after birth’ to ‘Warning Signs That the Loved Ones of an Addict Are Not Coping’. They also house a whole section full of your stories; people who have visited the site and decided to share their own experiences.
The creators of Defying Mental Illness are believers of Christianity, and so they also have a lot of articles around faith and mental health. These may not be for everyone, but it makes for an interesting take on the subject of mental health, and they don’t detract from the helpfulness of the non-religious articles.
NAMI is an American organisation, dedicated to building better lives for those affected by mental illness all across their country. Despite not being UK based, they have a really diverse blog section full of all sorts of really helpful articles. ‘My Experience as a Transgender Physician with Mental Illness’ was a great read, as was ‘Embracing Hip-Hop Music in Mental Health Treatment’.
There’s also a section of the blog aimed entirely at frontline professionals and their wellness, as well as an informative ‘Ask the Expert’ section.
Mandy Kloppers is a qualified Psychologist and Cognitive Behavioural Therapist from Guildford in Surrey, who treats people with a wide range of mental health issues over Skype or Zoom.
On top of that, Mandy runs a great blog on her website,
Thoughts on Life and Love. With topics such as ‘How To Find Peace Of Mind Through Creativity’ and ‘How to Balance Self-Care and Child Care’, there are plenty of interesting articles to keep you reading. There is even a helpful list of categories and subjects so that you can choose what type of articles you want to browse.
The
Mental Health Foundation is the UK’s leading charity for everyone’s mental health. They describe what they do as taking “a public mental health approach to prevention, finding solutions for individuals, those at risk and for society, in order to improve everyone’s mental wellbeing”.
On their website they have a range of blogs focused more on what they are achieving with their research, what policy changes they are affecting, and what ongoing campaigns they have running. On top of that, there are some more personal and relatable blogs such as ‘Supporting a partner with depression’ and ‘How image editing apps are hurting our mental health’.
When you think of mental health charities in the UK,
Mind is most likely the one that springs to mind. Every day they provide advice and support to anyone experiencing difficulties with mental health, as well as campaigning to raise awareness and improve mental health services.
Their ‘Your Stories’ section is a blog containing articles written by real people about their very real experiences with mental health. They cover a wide range of topics such as how racism, grief, or even social media could affect your mental health. If you take the time to have a browse through the articles, you are bound to find something that strikes a chord with your own experiences.
Why not have a look through the rest of our blog too!
We have plenty on grief or bereavement, but we’ve also covered topics such as ‘
How to look after your mental health when working from home’ and ‘
Father's Day & Mental Health.
