Dad

Father is at peace now
His life a real long road,
It was sunshine most of the way
Though latterly it snowed.

Born so very long ago
In Glentworth village fare,
It was soon on to Hibaldstow
He happily settled there.

Firstly it was Redbourne Road
Then on to Brigg Road walked,
A happy childhood there was spent
Of which he often talked.

Brigg Grammar School a big step up
He completed his School Cert,
But it was numbers he really liked
He definitely got the shirt.

Next to Scunthorpe his attention shone
To Steel Works and the dances,
Often travelling there by bike
With the weather he'd take his chances.

Next Happy families was what he played
In Scunthorpe town he’d seat it,
Both kids and grandkids brought him joy
With Mum he couldn't beat it.

The later years were not so good
Although a very good innings,
But now he is back with his love
Claiming his promised winnings.
Ian Woodhead
