I knew Basil and his parents when I was quite young. They were a lovely family, and Basil was a friendly and gentle soul.

David Wager. I was very saddened to hear of Basil’s passing. We were friends at the Boys Gram in Carmarthen and we often played music together and also played in the Gram tennis team. We kept in touch over the years and I used to visit him regularly in Aberystwyth when he would tell me about his and Rhiannon’s travels to obscure Eastern European counties, particularly his love of churches. In recent times my wife Jan and I would meet them once a year on a Friday night for a few drinks around Aberystwyth and catch up on all the news. R.I.P, Basil.

I am truly sorry to hear that Basil has passed away. He and I were friends when we were both students at Carmarthen Boys’ Grammar School and for a few years were very close. We played cello together in the school orchestra and also played football together. Basil was a scientist whereas I chose the Arts for A Level. Thereafter we drifted apart but I will always remember him as a very intelligent boy. Among many memories I will always remember how he introduced me to the most obscure of musical instruments namely the ocarina. He had a fascination and deep knowledge of matters astronomical. I did not share that interest but I learned much from him. Rest in peace dear friend.
