Charles taught my son Latin and Ancient Greek at Haslemere Prep school. He was an inspiring teacher who unlocked a passion and love for the classical languages, which in turn underpinned his studies in languages generally. Yesterday Harvey graduated from Bristol university with a first class honours degree in classics. I wanted to let Charles know and just found this obituary whilst trying to make contact. I’m sad to learn that Charles has passed but will be eternally grateful for his legacy.
Harvey will start his own teaching career in September when he starts as Head of Classics at Westminster Cathedral choir School - where he will hope to inspire the next generation. Thank you Charles!

I worked alongside Charles for many years, he was a great friend and incredibly loyal. Charles possessed a keen sense of justice, life was never dull with Charles at The Heights.I will always remember him with fondness, a man blessed with a wonderful mind, a great sense of humour, sometimes mischievous in nature, with a love of all things English. A true patriot. He held an inexhaustible knowledge on music, food ( a liking for what I would call rotten cheese) and wine. He was such good company, we laughed a lot together, he always had an interesting viewpoint and forensic mind for detail. i often sought his counsel. I feel privileged to have known him. RIP Charles

Charles was a fun colleague, good friend and very generous person. We worked together for about 25 years. I will miss his humour and company.

Charlie was my cousin and I knew him best when we were both growing up. Often met with him and his family while on hoilday with our family in Barry. Also I enjoyed meeting him at his parents house in Chatsworth Crescent when I was studying at Manchester University.
He was very gifted in music, and with a calm, highly intelligent personality.
My condolences are due to Jeremy and Edward at this sad time. May he indeed rest in peace.
