JeanetteHIPSEYJeanette Hipsey, known to many as the 'Hippo Lady' sadly passed away at Cann House Care Home in Plymouth on 15th September 2023 aged 82 following a series of strokes earlier in the year with her oldest friend Mary of 60 years at her side. Her only surviving relatives Stefanie, Martin and Johannes all live in Germany and our thoughts are with them at this time.

Born in Maidenhead and later moving to Plymouth where she involved herself in many local organisations including the Plymouth Proprietary Library where she was an honorary member for many years. Still Jeanette never forgot her Maidenhead roots sponsoring many a civic project from afar. Working for the NHS for most of her life she did not hesitate to donate a kidney in 2007 to a distant cousin when she found she was a match.

Jeanette loved hippo's and all things hippo and amassed a collection of well over 1000 in her home as well as adopting a real hippo, 'Abe' in Zimbabwe. Pictured here in her garden with 'Huberta' a few years ago Jeanette has lived a full and interesting life and her full story can be found here www.thehippolady.co.uk

She will be missed by all that knew her.
