Merlys PatriciaGAVIN( Ex Mynyddbach School Maths teacher) Sadly, on Sunday 29th August 2021 at Morriston Hospital, Merlys, aged 84 passed peacefully. Merlys was a retired mathematics teacher at Mynyddbach school where she taught for 34 years. In addition to her profession as an excellent maths teacher, her passions in life were travelling and she was a keen Egyptologist, working as a volunteer at Swansea University's Egypt Centre for many years. She was also a member of both Morriston Ladies Choir and the Tabernacle Morriston Choir. Cherished daughter of the late Wilfred and Sadie Nock, wife of the late David Gavin and beloved sister of Linda and sister in law to Raymond, she will be sadly missed. Funeral service to be held on Thursday 9th September 2021 at Swansea Crematorium, 3.00pm. Miss Knock taught me Maths in Mynyddbach many many years ago . She was kind and patient and always encouraging. I am now 73 and living in Canada but always remember her fondly even after all these years. Condolences to her family.

Fond memories of a chorister well liked, with some really interesting tales to relay of her travelling adventures and her interesting knowledge of anything to do with the Egyptian Centre. Lovely comments being received from choristers who were pupils when she taught in Mynyddbach.
