We lived near Gerry and Lynette in NZ years ago and Gerry was the most hospitable friendly guy you could know. Both were so welcoming and Gerry was the kind of guy who would always help you out and although pretty quiet he had that hull sense of humour we missed from home. You could tell he was a doting partner and father and we were so sad to hear of this news. Sending lots of love and strength to the family

It’s taken me some time to put words together, but I often find lately that there simply are no words. My dad was the most loving, gentle, humble, and kindest man you’d ever meet. Not a bad bone in his body, and sometimes to his own detriment.

I say this not as a cliche, but as genuine testament to his character. He was one of the absolute best, a proper good one. Generous to a fault. If he didn’t have time for you, he’d make time.

I’ll miss the jokes, his very specific humour, mushy peas, Yorkshire puds, lessons on politics, economics, business, random facts, the puns, new gadgets, sharing joy in the little things.

Dad, I miss you, I hope you knew I am so incredibly proud of you, always. You deserve absolute peace and I hope you have that now. You are the man I aspire to be. I love you

I knew Gerrard as a young man and found him to be a true gentle, kindly and amiable soul ' a good kid' as we used to call him then. he was a friend of my late brother David who often said how nice a guy he was, which was praise indeed from someone who chose his friends carefully. I do hope they see each other again and catch up on those good old bad old days. Rest easy mate....
