Ellen GwendolineBUTCHERGwen has sadly died after a long struggle with her health. Gwen will be greatly missed. She was known and loved by many all over the world for her generosity and warmth in helping others, also for her ‘formidable’ character. Gwen’s funeral will be held on September 2nd at 10.45, Efford Crematorium in Plymouth. Dress formal & traditional or casual & comfortable as you prefer. Please bring a flower, armful of flowers, or a twig from your garden to lay on her coffin. Please don’t buy flowers. There will be a live web link to the crematorium if you would like to join ‘virtually’. Please see link below. If you’d like to make a donation, Gwen was involved with many charities through her life but perhaps most actively with Oxfam and mental health, including the charity RETHINK. You will be able to make donations in person at the crematorium and also online via the funeral director’s website. You can also, if you wish, leave a photo or tribute there. See the link below. From about 1.30 there will be a celebration of her life at her home with food, music, sharing of memories and seeding a wildflower meadow. Gwen was active in many aspects of village life and would be happy to welcome all who knew her to her celebration. Aunt Gwen was always somebody I always admired for her unstinting determination to help create a better world. She will be sorely missed.

Gwen was indeed a very special person, my Mum loved her and misses her so much!
I met Gwen a few times and completely understand why, she was a lovely kind caring friendly person. x
she will be missed.

It was a privilege to have known Gwen and she will be sadly missed.
I have so many memories of her being caring, creative, forward thinking, a force to be reckoned with, a friend, but also and a big softie at heart. She would fight for the underdog, stand up for people’s rights and never minded being the people’s voice. She always had time to listen, support you and cared about your life.

I think of her as a Lioness, “Strong powerful, in control and a loving Mother to her cubs and the whole pride”.
