Jan and I were saddened to hear of Enid’s passing but know that she would have been sustained to the end by her strong Christian faith.
I first knew Enid as a fellow member of the congregation at Leaside Church in 1981 and occasionally helped her with the youth group she organised in the old Sunday School building. Her commitment to the young people was very strong.
I was delighted when she agreed to become a candidate in the Town Council elections of May 1987. With the enforced closure of the youth group because Leaside were selling the building she told me she had been praying about what she might do next and took my call to her to be the answer to that prayer.
During the first 12 years she served as a Town Councillor she campaigned to get a new youth coffee bar set up which was finally achieved in 1990.
She was so involved with so many Ware people and frequently brought their concerns to the attention of the Council and consequently influenced many of its decisions.
She was a strong voice during the many discussions that led to the successful restoration of Ware Priory.
After having stood down before the elections in 1999 she once again agreed to stand in 2007 and together we spent the next four years as a small minority group when again she brought the concerns of Ware people to the attention of Councillors.
In more recent times our contact has been limited to brief conversations when she has been at the Local Social Friday meetings at the Southern Malting. Those conversations were always a pleasure for whatever trials and tribulations she might be suffering she always remained cheerful , no doubt sustained by her Christian beliefs.
With my kind regards to all her family
