I met Nick in 1947 when we started in the Dockyard as Electrical Fitter Apprentices
After our time and National Service I was posted to Bath in 1965 and Nick followed soon after and we shard 'Digs' Our landlady, Joyce Gilbert served us with Oxtails and Bread-and-Butter Pudding.
We shared a large bedroom and each day started with 'keep fit' exercises and a walk to the office. Lunchtime together led to a walk around Combe Down.
When our families joined us i moved to Keynsham and Nick to Radstock and we enjoyed picnics on the Mendips which included launching our 'boomers', water pressure rockets.
We kept in touch when Nick returned to 'Guzz' and in later years have been able to meet up with Jim Lord. We had our reunion of known 1947 survivors in Jim's apartment when six of us turned up.
Nick and i have met up on two occasions since and finally last June when we caught the ferry at the Barbican to the Royal William Yard to visit Jim.
This is a sad time but it is a comfort to be able to look back at pleasant memories
