I met Jenny 29 years ago when she interviewed me for my first social work post. Jenny then became my guiding star, initially as my manager at work and later as my very good friend. Just before Jenny retired, myself, Carrie and Jenny went to York for the weekend and our 'Ladies Who Travel' trio was formed. For the next 15 years we would have at least 1 and usually 2 weekends away each year, taking it in turn to choose where we were going. We went all over the place, including to Wales, New York and Rome. We had so much fun with lots of laughter, shopping and wine. Matthew would always cook us his beautiful Singapore Noodles for the Friday night and send a pomelo.
I was surprised but very grateful for Matthew's phone call asking me to visit Jenny in hospital. I had been out for lunch with Jenny a couple of weeks earlier and she looked so well. I was privileged to be able to thank Jenny for everything she has done for me over the past 29 years, for all the support, care and wise advice she has always given me despite her own traumas and difficulties. I was able to tell Jenny how much I loved her and would miss her.
Jenny was an incredibley strong woman, little phased her at work and she set about improving Learning Disability Services with vigor and gusto. Nothing passed Jenny by, she was firm but fair and very fiesty! She was known as 'Wing Commander Liew' in the senior management team and we would all be in fits of giggles in meetings as the Head of HR would recite a comical short story about her - what a sense of humour Jenny had.
Rest in peace my dear friend Jenny, I miss you so much already.
With much love from your trusty sidekick, Kate x
