I had the good fortune to work closely with Mick for 6 yrs, which turned out to be the most enjoyable 6 yrs of my whole career. Mick played a massive part in that. If you were having a bad day, a conversation with Mick invariably resulted in (at worst) a smile, and at best (usually) a belly laugh and you came away feeling much better. I will always remember those conversations and also how talented he was at his job.
Mick was also immensely proud of his lovely family, Louise and their two talented and really good kids, Amy and Harry. I count myself very lucky that I was able to meet them and get to know them through Mick. Great family, kind generous and caring, just like Mick.
Mick for me was one of the kindest, hard working, caring and funniest person I have ever been lucky enough to meet and I am proud that he was my friend.
He had this brilliant uncanny knack of making most people’s day just that bit better.
You’ll be missed big man but never forgotten by those lucky enough to have known you.

I’ve just looked up ‘Legend’ in the dictionary.

Legend
/ledz(e)nd/
Noun
- An extremely famous or notorious person
- A story of notable value particularly important to history
- Similar: epic, celebrity, superstar, icon
- Mick Carter

Well, that about sums it up.
I had the privilege of having Mick as my boss for some years and what a boss! I learned such a lot from him (including what not to do!) that has stood me in good stead for every challenge I have come up against.

Advice given on our long road trips up and down the country and a quiet understanding that didn’t need to be spoken about.

Mick insisted on viewing things from the lighter side of life which rubbed off on all who knew him (except the trainer on the diversity course Mick graduated from!).

Above his unrelenting naughtiness, Mick was supportive and kind. A real gentleman.

His huge presence will not leave a void, as Mick is, and will continue to be, a massive a part of his family and friends’ lives.

His mark has been made. On us all. And we are lucky people to have known such a legend.

Not only a boss – but a real mate.

Cheers Mr Carter and thank you for everything...xx

About 35 years ago I had the pleasure of working alongside Mick for many years at Argos, I still haven’t got a clue what he did though! He taught me how to play cards, gin rummy which we played every day at lunchtime. No day was ever dull, he made the time fly, always telling stories and jokes, an honour and pleasure to have spent time with him.
Rest in peace
