Sorry to hear of the loss of such a lovely man and encouraging teacher. Always there to advise and help me with English, poetry and my art Even when meeting Mr Bates after leaving school he always asked about my art. Couldn’t have wished a nicer person. God bless

George taught me in the 1980s at Willows and he was undoubtedly my most favourite teacher. I had the pleasure of seeing him often in my previous role with his lovely wife, Pamela and we shared many cherished memories together. Still had his infectious sense of humour and always had a smile. Sending heartfelt condolences to Pamela, Lucy and all that knew him.

Thank you for putting so much into teaching. The extra time at art club will not be forgotten. It might have been 40 years ago but some people you don't forget.

Mr Bates taught me at Willows in the early 1980s. He was a wonderful teacher with keen ambition and high standards for his students, as well as being generously determined to instil a love of his hobbies (art and stamps, especially) or indeed any hobby for its own sake, through the various clubs he gave freely of his time to run. I still have some of the daily diaries we wrote in our lessons and credit the way he nurtured writing with going on to become an English teacher. My condolences to his family and friends.
