Mum and I thought the service on Wednesday was so beautiful and a perfect remembrance of Alice. She has always been an important figure in my life because as well as being one of Mum's favourite people since they were at Seafield and university together, Alice introduced Mum and Dad by bringing him to the Campion I understand, so this branch of the McCauley clan wouldn't be here without her! One of my favourite stories is Mum and Alice going back to Seafield as elegant young women and the nuns inviting them into Benediction in the Chapel. Mum luckily had her mantilla with her but not so Alice. It was ok, a nun saved the day by providing Alice with a glove from the depths of her voluminous habit to wear on her head for the duration of the service, struggling to maintain her decorum. This makes me cry laughing every time I remember it! Our love to Mike, Dominic and Alice; we know Alice will be sorely missed. Anne and Eileen McCauley (nee Usher)

So sad to hear of Alice’s passing. She was a lovely lady and always cheery. I first met her when she took over the sixth form at Savio and was a big influence on my teaching career. We went on many theatre trips together and it is thanks to Alice that I became so engrossed in the RSC and subsequently took many theatre trips of my own there. I remember also the soirees she held in Ainsdale and her sitting at the piano singing Thomas Moore’s Oft in the Stilly Night. I have been thinking of her a lot recently as I prepare to lead a book club holiday based on Joseph O’Connor’s Star of the Sea where Connemara is so central to the story. She will never be forgotten and I feel privileged to have met and worked with her. With lots of love. Alban O’Brien
