I met Ian doing one of his favourite things - peering at standing stones at Fowlis Wester, clambering up hillforts and trying to understand the cup-marked rocks across Perthshire. We also shared a couple of classical music concerts. I learned Ian was an intensely interested person who loved to encourage others to appreciate Scotland's history which he demonstrated through his vigorous engagement with the General Wades Road Survey project and the various historical organisations he got involved with between his adopted home of Crieff and Perth. Such energy is appreciated and will be missed.
