Mark was the first man to greet me when I joined the 2nd Battalion Scots Guards in Edinburgh, after leaving the 1st Battalion in Germany.
I couldn’t have been luckier to meet him. He welcomed me straight away and put my mind at ease at a time when I was surrounded by new faces and finding my place.

We clicked from the very start and built a friendship that carried us through our time in the Regiment and beyond. There were plenty of nights in each other’s married quarters in Dreghorn Drive, and more than a few nights out on the lash in town—some of which are a bit hazy to remember, but all of which I’ll never forget.

Even after our days in uniform, we stayed in touch and remained good friends.

Rest easy, Mark. Awe the best, my friend. I’ll see you again in the re-org in the sky.

When Mark joined the battalion in Hounslow, I was fortunate to be his platoon sergeant. His youth couldn’t hide the genuine caring Soul that lay beneath his dedicated work ethic. As the years passed, Mark grew in confidence like all good Scots Guardsmen and his core character remained intact. Mark was a pleasure to meet, work with and witness his contribution to his brothers-in-arms and the Regiment.

My spiritual thoughts go to this fine man and his loved ones.
