SPENCER URENBig-hearted marketing manager Spencer Uren won a place on the Channel 4 reality cookery show Come Dine With Me hoping to win the £1,000 for his sister who was battling cancer.
But in a tragic twist of fate, Mr Uren was himself diagnosed with cancer after filming was complete and died before the programmes were screened.
Other contestants from the show were so moved by Spencer's sudden diagnosis and subsequent death that they have launched a campaign in his name.
'Come Dine For Spencer' encourages people to hold their own dinner party and to raise £250,000 for cancer patients.
Fellow contestant Richard Carpenter, an electrician, said: "Spencer was a really nice guy. We had agreed to meet up and have an evening together.
"It was quite shocking how quickly he went from being a bit ill to being very ill."
The shows featuring Mr Uren were screened for the first time from January 11-15, 2010, and repeated again in March that year.
Another of the contestants, Gill Buley, said: "Spencer was a lovely chap. He came in and out of my life so quickly, but we would have been friends for a long time if he was still here.
"After the show we saw each other regularly and it was a terrible shock when he was also diagnosed with cancer."
Filming took place in January 2009 and Mr Uren, from Basingstoke, Hampshire, lost his battle with the disease on May 31 that year.
Mr Uren's mother Nona, said it had been devastating to find out two of her four children had cancer within four months of each other.
Mr Uren's sister Sorelle said: "When Spencer told me he was through to Come Dine With Me, I thought it was hilarious.
"Then he told me the reason why - to help me pay my mortgage because I was having chemotherapy and couldn't work.
"I know he loved me so much, like I do him.
"I'm so proud of him and miss him heaps."

An amazing individual that i'll remember for the rest of my life. He would capture and entertain a room of strangers in minutes, it was difficult to take your eyes off Spencer.

I am honoured to have known him.

I saw Come Dine With Me last fri 1/4/2016 and apart from one female cook/dinner guest who appeared rather 'odd',well I was really taken by Spencer .Some people and sadly not many realy light up a room with their smile and from just being a viewer and fellow vegetarian, well he was exactly the type of person whose good karma shined.I'm fighting an incurable bone disease myself and must admit I could tell immediately that Spencer had a health problem but the announcement at the end of the show made me cry.I send love to the Uren family and so hope his sister is ok.I've never written anything like this before but am glad I did.RIP Spencer xxx

Today here in Sydney, Australia, we had the last show of "Come Dine with me" with Spencer in it, and I am a avid watcher of the english show, as I too am english, and the Last episode with Spencer, was on today 20 01 2016 here in Sydney, and at the end they put up that sweet Spencer had died of Cancer at 36, 3 or one month? later after the last show finished, and it brought me to tears..He was such a lovely man to watch and he will be missed alot and my deepest Sympathie's go out to his Family and Friend's and what a real shame...May he rest in peace and be out of pain now...There's a star shining in the Sky for Spencer, and he will be missed by me, even though I only knew him through the show, I still thought he was a great Character on the show..I prey his Sister is either in remission or coping okay, and my prayer's go out to her too, and thank you for letting Us share Spencer on our Television here...P.S: Loved how he jumped and was scared of cat's..
