Dear John,
My fondest memory of you is still vivid: sitting by Valdengo’s small lake, fishing rod in hand, a bike resting beside you. It was about 15 years ago when you shared some of what you’d learned from life, telling me to seize every opportunity and how, given a second chance, you’d become a vet. That conversation has stayed with me ever since.
The values I strive to live by—family loyalty, appreciating life's simple pleasures, making the most of what we have, and standing firm against adversity—were all shaped by my family, including you. Thank you for imparting these lessons in your own unique way.
I can't be there in person to say farewell, but I want to say goodbye positively, honoring the wonderful memories we shared. Please know that a “John and Nanna” will always sit on my veranda, a quiet testament to your presence in my life.
One memory perfectly captures your caring spirit and popularity. When you visited us in Italy and learned I (about 14 years old at the time) was collecting can pull tabs, you didn't hesitate. Upon returning home, you rallied all your friends to collect them for me. Soon enough, a large bag arrived—enough for me to craft the belt I wanted for my satchel. It was a truly thoughtful gesture that showed how much you cared.
We love you, John, and you will be deeply missed.
With love, J x
