RICHARD MILES GIBBSIn loving memory of Dad. A much loved father of Ian Frank and Jean. Grandfather of Jason, Marrianne and Emma, great granfather of Briony and Georgia.
When we were children, the family were quite poor, Dad worked at british rail as a guard on the trains and earned very little money. Despite this, we always had food in our bellies, a roof over our heads and a warm comfortable home to live in. Although Dad worked hard, there was no promotion or financial bonuses for him to look forward to. But he was a clever man with great practical skills, he made most of our furniture and was able to repair and maintain just about everything and anything we needed as a young family. As children we learned so much from Dad, we watched him build things, mend things and use his endless creativity to find solutions to problems that in todays world, would be solved by simply spending money. Dad passed on these skills and creativity to all of his children. These simple things have helped me to be a better person and make a good life for my family and loved ones. Dad taught me the right and wrong of things and how to be dignified in difficult times. In later life, his strength of character shone through during his long years of illness, he bore these difficult times without complaint and showed me the true meaning of the phrase "to bear and forebear". Now Dad has gone, I realise even more, how wonderful these things are, that he gave to us.
More than anything I want him to know that in these things lie his greatness, as a man and as a father and I will always remember him for what he gave me. God Bless you Dad.
Your loving Son, Ian
