Countless ways you touched touched both my own and my family’s life:-
Right up to the final lesson you remained your faithful, welcoming self.
"Come gie's your news,” was the phrase you used greet to greet me, from your favourite poet Robert Burns, endlessly interested in my life and welfare.

Expert tutor to both Jennifer, Graham and myself, your musical knowledge was both interesting and wide even arranging bespoke pieces tailored to the player.
You shared your enthusiasm and views for film both classics and current, Brief Encounter will always be a reminder of you.
Humorous Christmas cards and eloquent letter writing.
Fascinating stories from your years in Berwick and your lessons in history of wartime enemy code-breaking, privileged previews of your talks to the Willow club.
Legendary piano parties and patience, encouraging reluctant but keen beginners.

Thank you Liz for your kind welcome always into your home.
The gap in the week where the lesson was is a hard one to fill, it seems like the end of an era but your influence and spirit live on with great affection in my heart.
Good bye friend.

Doug was a true gem to the world. One of the kindest, most fun loving and gentle souls that I had the pleasure of calling my friend and a true father figure.
Always there for support, words of wisdom and the occasional skit; he loved life and lived it to the full; taking pleasure from seeing the happiness and the growth of all who had the pleasure to know him. I will miss him terribly, but his tremendous positive impact on me and on those I love will allow his soul to live on in my heart and the hearts of so many lives he has enhanced by his presence through the years. Rest In Peace Doug. You were one of a kind and I'll love you always x

Doug taught piano to our daughter Melissa, and granddaughter Jasmine. These 30 minute lessons were quite remarkable. Not only in their highly skilled content, but also in giving encouragement, self-belief with a good sprinkling of humour,. Doug was always youthful and enthusiastic as he shared stories and jokes and also asked questions, as he got to know his students.
It was remarkable that music was seemingly effortlessly taught somehow among all the fun.
After lessons we left Doug’s house feeling jovial and light hearted. Such was the effect of just 30 mins in Doug’s presence.

Doug kept the art of letter-writing alive with his thank you letters for gifts at Christmas. We loved receiving his home made humorous Christmas cards and , and we enjoyed his novel, The Ratking, a good page turner.
A man of many talents with a warm and endearing personality.
Thank you for the music Maestro.
With love and admiration
