FredLYNSKYMr Fred Lynsky, aged 92, died following a tragic road accident. He was the husband to the late Alice, and father of the late Ann. He is survived by his three remaining children, Peter and his wife Shirley, David and his wife Kathryn, Susan and her husband Gary, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a sixth imminent, which he was looking forward to meeting. Fred was born and bred at ‘99 Steps’, a cellar dwelling in Haslingden. He attended Haslingden Primary School and witnessed Haslingden Baths being built. Fred was the first person to use the diving board. Fred used to deliver papers. He bought the first copy of the Beano Comic. Fred loved cricket and was skipper for the school team. He used to watch cricket at Rawtenstall Cricket Ground. At the age of 14, Fred became a member at Haslingden Trades Club; he was given a packet of five cigarettes and a free pint because he joined the Cotton Union. Fred’s working life was varied; postman, debt collector, baker, night watchman, and a mule spinner at Ilex Mill. Fred used to look forward to regular trips out with Susan and David, visiting Rawtenstall Market, Bank Street, Cissy Greens, and all the memorable places in the Valley. A well known figure seen daily walking around Rawtenstall, Fred was never without his flat cap. He had 12 caps to choose from. He loved a daily trip to the local hostelries for a real ale, or whatever took his fancy. He had an extensive collection of books and musical CDs. The funeral took place on Wednesday, April 28, with Requiem Mass at St James The Less RC Church, followed by interment in Rawtenstall Cemetery led by Father Anthony McBride. Funeral director: Dawn Winfield for Fred Hamer Funeral Service.
