It was 20 years ago that we first met Jim (yes, even then he was wearing his trademark deerstalker hat) and his beloved wife Lorna, on a journalist's trip to Germany. And from that moment on we shared Jim's passion for Scotland, the Scottish Isles - and a wee dram or two! A passion that resulted in him being commissioned to write "Islands Galore" - and one that we enjoyed with him and Lorna over the years as we spent holidays on Mull, Skye, Jura and the Orkneys.
Treasured though our memories are of Jim as a good friend, who lit up the lives of everyone he knew, he will always be remembered as an outstanding wordsmith - a dedicated journalist, author and prodigious dairy-keeper, having kept a daily diary since a young boy. What stories they can tell!

We miss him dearly and our thoughts go out to Lorna and his family
