BrendaHYLANDOf Horwich Lancashire, wife of the late Bob, passed away at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge on the 25th of February 2026 aged 94.
Brenda attended Rivington and Blackrod Grammar School and worked across the country as both a cookery instructor and later knitting machine demonstrator. During this time, she met Bob who was serving in the Royal Air Force, and they married in 1956. Together they travelled extensively, including overseas postings to Aden and Germany, before settling in Lincolnshire.
Brenda worked both full and part-time during her long life, including as a nursing auxiliary, teaching assistant, GP receptionist and latterly as a carer, which she loved - particularly as clients would often be much younger than herself! She loved cooking and socialising and was an active member of a local ladies' darts team and social group, Mes Amis. Brenda passed her driving test at the first attempt in her 50's and loved to drive, frequently visiting family across the country and particularly back to Horwich and Blackrod where she became something of a local celebrity during the annual Blackrod Scarecrow festival, serving refreshments in her brother, David's, garden.
Brenda is survived by her two sons, Ian and Phillip and brothers Alan and David.
Funeral service to be held at Lincoln Crematorium (East Chapel) on Tuesday 7th April at 12.30.
Refreshments served immediately following the service at the International Bomber Command Centre, Canwick Avenue Lincoln, LN4 2QH
