Gran,

I can't believe it's been 5 years.

I miss the sound of your voice and your laugh. I miss listening to your stories and memories. When I need advice or encouragement, I have to imagine what you'd say instead of being able to pick up the phone or come to see you.

These days, I only see your beautiful smile and your shiny blue eyes in photographs. The void that has been left in your absence will only be filled when I see you again - and I hope with all of my heart that you will be waiting for me when the time comes.

Our family isn't the same - we have lost our hero, our anchor, our friend and our rock.

You were fearless and so strong - I admit that a part of me was clinging onto hope that you might never leave, that you were so brilliant that you just might have lived forever. You were extraordinarily special, forbiddable, a force to be reckoned with, dignified, courageous, classy and incredible.

I miss you so much Gran. I love you always and forever.

Happy Heavenly Birthday Gran. I'll never forget how we spoke on this day 5 years ago. We were together, but there was an aching feeling that we might have been running out of time. I will never forget how we talked that day, or how in the quiet moments, the love was so incredibly loud. I still feel that love. I miss you so much. I wish I could see you today to wish you a Happy Birthday, to watch your face as you read your card, to tell you how much I love you, and to sit with you again. You are forever in my heart and thoughts. I hope you are somewhere beautiful, that you know how much you mean to your loved ones on earth - and that your loved ones in Heaven are making sure you have a wonderful birthday.
