David JohnDUCKWORTHMr David John Duckworth of Coniston Way, Rishton, near Blackburn, died peacefully on Saturday, June 25, aged 73, surrounded by his family. David was the only son of Clifford and Isabelle Duckworth. He was the devoted husband and best friend of Susan, proud and loving father of Kerry, Philip and daughter-in-law Elisa. The doting grandad of Alex, Elektra and Penelope and dear brother of Marion, brother-in-law of Lynne and Erik and uncle of Jonathan and Carl. On leaving Accrington Grammar School, David worked hard to become a Chartered Accountant. His early working years were spent in local accountancy practices, Crawshaw, Watts and Moss and Hodgkinson, Lund and Monk before spending a few years in industry at the Gilbraith Group. Returning to practice, he worked at Lund and Furey and Pierce Chartered Accountants before setting up his own practice from where he retired in 2016. David never needed to advertise for clients. He always did his best for them and they repaid him with their loyalty. David always tried to help the community. He managed a junior football team for several years at St Joseph’s F.C. He was a trustee of Hyndburn Homewise Charity and was a very loyal member of the Rotary Club of Accrington for over thirty years, serving as President twice and the very proud recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship award. He was one of the mainstays of the club. David loved to go regularly to London and Suffolk to see family. Before his health and mobility restricted him he loved days out walking in the Lake District. He was a long-time member of the National Trust and English Heritage but his favourite place was Cornwall and his beloved Treyarnon Bay. David was a well-liked and respected, unassuming, hard working and kind. Above all he was a devoted family man, as such is utterly irreplaceable. The funeral will take place at 11am on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at Accrington Crematorium. Family flowers only please, but donations, if desired, may be made to the East Lancs Hospice, a cause dear to David’s heart, Hyndburn Funeral Services, Queen’s Road, Accrington.
