Eric RalphDAWKESPeacefully passed away on the 6th of January in the Heath Hospital, Cardiff. Born in Willesden, London, Eric spent much of his childhood in Scotland before becoming a proud member of the Merchant Navy. Whilst traveling the world, he met his wife to be Betty in New Zealand and fell in love with both. They married and brought up their family in his beloved New Zealand. When the children were older they divided their time between New Zealand and the UK, finally settling in South Wales in 2005. It is with great sadness I read about the passing my friend and ex Aberdare College work colleague Eric Dawkes. I have known Eric since the early 1980’s when he joined Aberdare College, and in later years in Mountain Ash where I live.
Eric had tremendous experience and skills, which he brought and applied to his work within the College. He was well liked and respected by his peers. After leaving the College I met Eric on numerous occasions, from the time he spent working in the Tool store in Aberdare market to chats we had in Mountain Ash in later years. Eric always had time to talk to you and take interest in what you were doing. A man of great skills msissed and remembered by all who know him.
