ConstanceCARTMELLPassed away peacefully, surrounded by those who loved her, on June 30 at Townfield Care Home, aged 92 years.

Beloved wife of the late Les and the late Derek, cherished auntie to Michael and Karen,
loving step mum to Andrew and Cathrine, proud step grandma to Aimee and Ellen,
devoted godmother to Catrina and a dear lifelong friend to Joyce.

Born in Clayton in July 1932, Constance’s life was shaped by a deep love of learning and a passion for helping others. She began her education at St James Infant School and continued through All Saints Junior School and
Accrington High School for Girls. Her dedication to education led her to train as a teacher at Edge Hill Training College in Ormskirk and later, eventually achieving her dream of earning a BA degree from the Open University. That achievement opened the door to her calling: teaching.
Constance was immensely proud to become a teacher and shared her knowledge, warmth and kindness with countless students over the years.
Even in her later life, she continued to give back through voluntary work in schools, for the local council and,
most meaningfully, through her beloved church.

Constance married Les in 1972 at All Saints Church in Clayton-le-Moors. They shared 17 happy years together before his passing in 1989. Life gifted her with love once more, and in 1994 she married Derek at Sacred Heart Church in Blackburn. Their 24 years of marriage were filled with companionship, joy and laughter, until Derek’s passing in 2018.

A lady of many interests, Constance found joy in reading, knitting, crochet and dressmaking.
She had a graceful love for ballroom dancing and treasured sunny holidays abroad with those she held dear.
Her warmth, wisdom and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Constance created deep friendships throughout her life and was an inspiration to many.
She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the honour of knowing her.

Constance’s funeral service will be held at St Bartholomew’s Church, Church Lane, Great Harwood, BB6 7PU
on Friday, July 18, at 12pm followed by the burial at Great Harwood Cemetery.

Family flowers only please, donations are being gratefully received in her memory on behalf of
‘East Lancashire Hospice’, a donation box will also be provided at the funeral.
