Brenda LouiseCOPUSBrenda Copus ("Ninna"), born 25th May 1933 in Croydon, died 28th April 2025 in Tunbridge Wells. Widow of the late Geoffrey Copus (Historian of Chelsfield). There will be a Bells Wake for our much-missed Mum and the burial of her Ashes with those of her beloved husband Geoffrey on Saturday 25th October at St. Martin of Tours Church, Church Road, Chelsfield, Orpington BR6 7SN. The Half-Muffled Bells Peal starts 9.30 a.m., rung for 2-3 hours. The Ashes Burial is at 10.30 a.m. This will be the first Bells Peal after lengthy repairs to St Martin of Tours' church spire. The Brass Crosby Room behind the church will be open until 5p.m. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend for all or part of the day. Ninna's written instructions were "Absolutely no wreaths. Wear bright colours and a flower" for her.

25th October is a significant date - the day after United Nations Day, a day of hope for World Peace. It is almost to the day the Anniversary of when Brenda and Geoff first met, at a UN social event in 1949. They were married at St Martin of Tours church in 1953.

Ninna was a unique and unforgettable personality. The oldest of 5 children, called "Nin" by her Cooper family, she was a loving Mother of 6 and Grandmother and Great-Grandmother to very many, including step-family. Gardener, music-lover, piano-player, dancer until way into her 80s, skilled arts-and-craftswoman, expert knitter, seamstress, lover of animals (particularly cats, elephants and butterflies), avid reader, genealogist, accomplished researcher - and fiercely intelligent. She was grateful that she was in the first cohort of students at Bromley County Grammar School for Girls who benefitted when free State Grammar education was introduced. The first person in her Cockney-origin family to attend University, she trained at Goldsmiths College for her later role as a Primary School teacher. Her contribution to Geoffrey's history research was significant; for instance, she transcribed many original family and local history documents, often translating them from Latin.

Having grown up in Kent during WW2, Ninna was a lifelong Pacifist and in her later years was a Quaker, whilst strongly adhering to her Christian Spiritual values. Generous to a fault, she put Charitable donations above her own financial comfort and campaigned tirelessly about numerous causes Local, National and International, often related to World Peace, Equality, Human Rights, Nature and Environmental Issues. She bought a small plot of woodland in Wales for the purpose of planting trees and preserving a beautiful natural environment. She asked that people plant trees in her memory.
