After six years of wartime service in The Green Howards and The Buffs, Mr Stewart joined the Civil Service in 1946 and had the distinction of having spent over thirty years in Public Service with The Home Office, where he was Secretary of the Poisons Board and latterly the longer period in the Finance Department.
