Derek JohnSMEDLEYAffectionately known as 'SMED' Passed away peacefully after a relatively short illness bravely borne on Wednesday 26th August 2020 aged 85 years. Beloved husband of Eileen, devoted Dad of Maria and Elizabeth, brother of Bernard and the late Christine, father-in-law to Dave and Gareth, and Grandad to Alec, Chace, Ivy and Oscar. His funeral will take place at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, Coton Road, Nuneaton on 25th September 2020. With reception of the body into church at 5pm on Thursday 24th September. The family wish to extend their grateful thanks to Father Matthew and Father George who visited Derek several times during his time in hospital, praying and anointing him; it has been a great comfort to us. External thanks are extended to the doctors, nurses and staff on ITU and Alexandra wards at George Eliot Hospital, for the excellent care and treatment given to him, to whom donations may be given, if so desired, the proceeds will be split between them.
