While visiting from the US and hoping to catch up with an old friend I came across Michael's obituary. And an hour later I saw his gravestone while visiting my parents' site.

We played football together as friends in Calderstones Park, and as teammates for De La Salle G.S. where his skills won us two Grammar School Shield championships. We stood on the terraces at Anfield and, on the way home decided that, but for a decision or two, we won every game -- or at least deserved to. We shared conversations over a pint or two at the Half Way House on Woolton Road. And then life and 5,000 miles got in the way.

I only have fond memories for a kind and gentle soul who made the people around him better than they otherwise would have been. Rest easy, Michael.

Visiting from the US and hoping to see Michael for a drink. I sadly came across his obit. An hour later I saw his grave while visiting my parents' site, and read his family's tribute.

We played football together as friends in Calderstones Park and as teammates at De La Salle. We watched Liverpool from the terraces and on the bus ride home we could convince ourselves that, but for a decision here or there, we won every game. We shared time over a pint or two at the Halfway House on Woolton Rd. Then life and 5,000 miles got in the way.

I have only the fondest of memories of a kind and gentle soul. Rest easy, Michael.

You were so loved and a tower of strength for me always. Your sons are a credit to you and you were there for them at every happy and sad moments of their lives, also your grandchildren who you loved to pieces. We will miss you so much and hope now that you are re-united with Mum and Dad and Paul. God bless you always and keep you safe.
