I only had the great privilege to meet with Sue once and that was at a very emotional time for me as it was Michael Chapmans Memorial and Funeral in Cumbria. I shared a house with her, Chris and her son with John the Fish and his lovely wife. As a fellow Cornishman it was a meeting of the Michael Cornish Clans made possible by my friend Andru Chapman. I’d known the Chapmans since the 1980s and stayed at Wrytree Farm and MC stayed with me on gigs in London a few times as well. Sue remembered my Aunt Dorothy Stanbury of Truro who was a friend and supporter of Brenda Wootton for many years. Sue very kindly sent me a copy of her beautiful and very honest biography of her mother and I treasure it and all the cds I have of Brenda’s brilliant music. Michael Chapman loved to play with her very old and treasured “torch songs” from his jazz upbringing. I’m sorry my tribute is late but I remember her well and really liked this feisty daughter of a musical heroine of mine and most of Cornwall!!! RIP Sweet Lady. Mike Gibbs
