A man of grit, a heart so wide,
With sleeves rolled up, he’d stand with pride.
Through coal and scrap, through wind and rain,
He found his joy in honest strain.
If work broke out, he led the line,
With calloused hands and steady spine.
If sickness came, he’d be the first,
To show up strong, to quench the worst.
His farm, his gym, his family name—
All built with love, no quest for fame.
He lived for kin, for blood, for grace,
With warmth and strength upon his face.
He’d work enough for two strong men,
Then lace his boots and run again.
Eight miles with Chris, through dusk or sun—
Hard work was joy when shared, when done.
A weekly pint, his brothers close,
Newcastle Brown—his favourite toast.
His jokes and wit, sharp as his trade,
In chequered shirts, his mark was made.
He loved his blues, the Goodison roar—
“Come on you Toffees!”—he’d implore.
And at the farm, with lawn cut neat,
His grapes and tomatoes grew so sweet.
To me, he was a northern star,
A giant of a man, when near and far.
As a young lad, I’d would stand and beam,
“My Uncle Pat”—my greatest dream.
He taught us so much, how to live and give,
What truly matters as we live.
Faith on his chest, worn firm and proud,
A quiet belief, that spoke so loud.
When illness came an stole with stealth,
It could never touch his truest wealth—
His fire, his fight, his steady gaze,
It still shone through, his hardest days.
Now back with friends, with Paddy and Bob,
Still lending a hand, still on the job.
And we, who all walk the path that he laid,
Are better for the man he made.
Here’s to Our Pat, whose light won’t dim—
We don’t just mourn—we honour him.
Our hero, our guide, our family thread—
We shall all carry forward, what he did, what he said.
I Thank You, Lord, for My Uncle Pat,
A gift so great, and true at that.
He blessed our lives with strength and grace,
We saw Your light within his face.
Rest now Uncle Pat, your work is through—
Everything we are, is all thanks to you. 🙏🏼
