SamuelBULLASMr Samuel Bullas, of Hardman Drive, Cowpe, passed away peacefully after a short illness, at the Royal Blackburn Hospital on Thursday, July 8, aged 88. Sam was born and brought up in Britannia, attending Britannia School and then briefly Leavengreave School until he was fourteen, when he went to work at the Lancashire Sock Manufacturing company, on New Line. Following National Service with the Royal Air Force as an aircraft engineer, which he very much enjoyed, he returned to work at Lancashire Sock, eventually becoming a Company Director until his retirement in 1997. Hardworking, and a dedicated family man, Sam could turn his hand to a range of DIY tasks. He had a fine eye for detail and over the years spent many hours tinkering with cars in his garage with his cousin Allan. He also enjoyed holidays abroad, especially to Austria and Switzerland, with his late wife Nancy. Later in life Sam enjoyed shopping trips, completing the most cryptic of crossword puzzles and attending day care twice a week at Parkside Day Centre which he used to look forward to. Beloved husband of the much-missed Nancy, he leaves his son Mark, daughter-in-law Louise, daughter Caren, son-in-law John, grandchildren Sarah, Tom, Robert and Daniel, and great-granddaughters Nancy and Delilah. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Park Side for their care over the years and to the staff at the Acute Medical Unit at the Royal Blackburn hospital for the care and compassion shown to Sam and his family. The funeral will be held at 11am on Friday, July 16, at Trinity Baptist Church, Bacup, with the Rev. Dave Bartram conducting the service, followed by cremation at Accrington Crematorium. Family flowers only please, however donations in memory of Sam can be made to Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary and the North West Air Ambulance. Funeral director: Anthony Johnson Funeral Services Ltd, Bacup.
