Of all the people I met at B&Bs or events over the years in Britain, Helen Alford (B&B Sleekers Farm, Sourton, Devon) reminded me most of my own mother and as such I remember her fondly whenever I think back to my short stayover at Sleekers Farm, many years ago. She cooked dinner and talked to me and my friend, made us feel welcome and constantly warned me not to hit my head while coming down and arranged for the neighbours to open their private pub for us. I regretted I was there only for 2 days and never got round to revisiting after I had gotten married and had children old enough to come along. One person can make a lasting impression even on a stranger.

I found out today, through a random Google search, that Helen Alford passed away on the 30th of October 2019. My belated condoleances to Mr. Alford and the children and grandchildren of Helen. I wish I had made more serious work of revisiting somehow. Sincerely yours, Marc van Blijswijk (Dutch and of 30th october 1969 coincidentally...)
