So sad to hear of the passing of Phil. We were mates at Thornleigh College, Bolton from 1955-1960, along with Pete Smith, Tony Gerrard and others. Phil excelled at cricket and he has the distinction of bowling out Sir Gary Sobers, when a youngish Gary was used as a part time cricket coach at Thornleigh around 1959-60. After Thornleigh we all went our separate ways, but I still have happy memories of a young Phil in my old age.

Harry Johnson,
Preston, Lancs.

Sincere condolences to Phil's family. I enjoyed Phil's company over a pint or three in The Band Club and chats we had on Longacres. RIP.
